Fondue is FUN!

Tonight we busted out our snazzy electric fondue pot. We got it as a wedding present but didn't use it until now... and it was so awesome!

We mixed Gruyere and Manchego cheeses and dipped bread, apples and broccoli into the cheesy wonderfulness.

Emerson REALLY wanted to try some, but fondue is not for kitties.

A sweet end to Passover

Passover ended today at sundown. For the past few days I was wondering what forbidden bread product I would eat first... bagels? Pizza? Pasta? Why was I even questioning it? Of course I was going to stock up on cupcakes from Kara's Cupcakes to give myself a flour, butter and sugar overload!

From left to right, banana caramel, meyer lemon, dark chocolate with salty caramel filling, and s'mores with burnt marshmallow frosting and graham cracker base. Please ignore the silly bunny and duckie easter decals on top. :)

If Dave had been in charge of the cake...

This is what our wedding cake may have looked like!

This is a "cake" made out of cheese! And, not just any old cheese, but the famous Humboldt Fog cheese made by Cypress Grove. It is so famous that in addition to people sculpting wedding cakes out of it, it has its own wikipedia page. And of course it's super yummy.

A little taste of Amsterdam

One of our favorite places to eat in Amsterdam was Maoz, an amazing falafel place. We decided to hunt one down in New York so we could relive some happy Holland memories.

I got my very own king cake!

Remember how I was dreaming about king cake the other day... well, I got one of my very own... and it was FREE! Here is the story: I called the Virginia Bakery in Berkeley where I had my first and only king cake two years ago. They said they weren't making any new cakes, but they had a cake from Tuesday that was never picked up. If I wanted it, I could stop by and pick it up (I was going to Berkeley anyway to meet some friends for lunch), and since it was 2 days old they would give it to me for free. It was SO YUM! :) Who doesn't love a free cake?

Dreaming of King Cake on this Fat Tuesday

No, I didn't get to eat any this year. And, yes, that's a little plastic baby Jesus in the center.

While the cat's away the mice will... cook?

As we all know, my husband, Dave is the chef in the family. I can make veggie chili, granola, and toast. Occasionally I can hard boil an egg. However, my dear husband has been in Japan for almost a week now. When my family was visiting we ate in restaurants.

Tonight, on my own, instead of heating up frozen food or calling for delivery, I decided to cook. I picked up some pear and pecorino ravioli at the farmers market yesterday and noticed we still had some fresh sage left over in our fridge. So, I decided to make brown butter and sage ravioli tonight. And it was amazing!!! I am so proud of myself! Can you feel me beaming?

Sea Palace

Sea Palace, a famous floating chinese restaurant in Amsterdam. Floating in the bay of the IJ river, this restaurant offers great views of Amsterdam and yummy food. Of course, it's a bit over-priced, but come on, it has to stay afloat somehow! Ha ha. Sorry, bad joke.

Anyway, I know it's a little cheesy, but after passing by it on half a dozen different canal cruises through Amsterdam I decided that I MUST go there before we move home. since we're less than 4 weeks away from moving home we decided to go there with our friends Jenn and Danny and check it off our list. FUN!
