December, you're here!

Happy December first everyone... we are awake early on the morning of this new month preparing to drive to the Dutch Consulate in Los Angeles to attempt to pick up our visas to live in the Netherlands.

We are scheduled to depart on Thursday for Amsterdam but we're not sure how long our visa processing will take. We're cutting it quite close. Cross your fingers for us!

And, enjoy December... it is a month with an interesting combination of unique stress as well as added downtime and relaxation.

For us, is also marks the beginning of a big adventure.

Family Roadtrip

On Tuesday we piled into the Jetta, and by piled I literally mean piled everything that was left of what we owned (including the cats), and we drove down to San Diego. Emerson loved sitting in her carrier and looking out the window, but Stuart not so much (as you can see above).

The drive was long, rainy, and exhausting, but we finally made it. And, now all four of us will make San Diego our home until we leave for Amsterdam (which will be ideally next week -- keep your fingers crossed for us and our visas).

So, last night we went to cook our final dinner in our little Palo Alto apartment. Too bad we gave away/sold ALL of our can openers!!! We then had to knock on doors asking to borrow one, and the first one we came across was some weird thing from the 70's... but it worked!

Our final days in the Bay Area feel like we're camping in our own apartment! We have no more furniture, only an air mattress, our clothes, and boxes.

Meh

We use the word "meh" all the time, and now it's in the dictionary! It's interesting that the definition is "an expression of indifference or boredom" because we also use it in place of the word "blah" sometimes. for example, "i'm feeling kind of meh today."

Erik and Emerson

Erik and Emerson got to meet yesterday. Em loves babies, but Erik doesn't look like he's too sure about felines. Stuart gave him a sniff but stayed under the bed during most of baby Erik's visit.

I know I haven't been blogging about it much... not on this blog at least (wink wink) but our wedding is happening THIS SATURDAY! Today marks the beginning of the madness because my Best Woman, Monica, arrives today. Tomorrow my Mom and Stepdad arrive, and the next day the rest of our parents, grandparents, and siblings arrive. By Friday there will be a whole swarm of guests and we'll all be in San Francisco rehearsing, preparing, and celebrating.

I'll try to blog from there, but since most of my readers will be in attendance, I guess there is no rush. :)

It's MONday today!

And, do you know what MONday means??? Yes, yes, it means it is MONICA day... and now it also means it is Erik and Daniel day too! I am so excited for this little family to arrive tomorrow and for the wedding craziness to begin.

I think it's safe to announce...

We got an apartment in Amsterdam! Our little European abode is situated in a neighborhood called De Pijp which is home to the famous Albert Cuyp Market. And, you all know how we love markets. :)

Verde Enchiladas

A couple of nights ago Dave made some amazing verde enchiladas filled with spinach and cheese. The real special thing about them was they were made with real green chile from New Mexico given to us by our friends Nat and Almea. YUMMY YUMMY!

Calling all swing states!

Today we decided to volunteer a couple of hours of our time and call voters in swing states to make sure they knew where their polling places were for Tuesdays huge election.


When the main office was too full some of us were sent to "Happy Donuts" to sit underneath a very large ceiling doughnut to make our calls.

November = craziest month ever

Yes, it's November first. The fact that it is November means a lot of things.

1) it means our wedding is happening this month, and

2) it means we're moving away from the Bay Area this month.

By Thanksgiving we'll be gone, using San Diego as our home base while we're living abroad.

Oh man, crazies month ever... ready, set, go!
