Ellie was adopted

Our little Ellie was adopted over the weekend. We heard that she went to a wonderful home and we are so happy! Tomorrow we will bring Stuart home with one of his brothers! Stuart and Ellie were part of a four kitten litter and we are going to spend some time with one of the other siblings now. Stay tuned for new pictures.

something i highly recommend

below i mentioned that we went away over the weekend and our laptops were not invited... well, it was a wonderful wonderful thing. yes, i did experience some withdrawal from not being able to check my email, but i think our weekend was greatly enhanced by the lack of the world wide web's presence.

also, once i got home on sunday night to check my email, there was nothing urgent that i would have needed to attend to over the weekend. so, if you're planning some time away, challenge your online addiction and leave your gadgets that can acccess the internet at home with your plants.

(you like that mattie? it's filed under "deep thoughts" just for you.) ;)

Getting away!

We are getting away for the weekend! I'm not telling any of you where we are going because we don't want to be found. Just know that we have UNINVITED our laptops. Yes, it's a real vacation. 48 hours away from the internet and email and the blog... will I survive!? It is in times like this that my addiction really shows.

kitten update

so, many of you have asked... are we keeping the kitties?

now here is the answer.

well, yes and no. in order to continue to foster new kitties we decided we should only keep one permanent cat and therefore be able to have new fostered kittens rotating in and out. this way we can have one kitty we get attached to and love forever while still helping out this rescue organization and doing good for all kitty-kind.

our main "ambassador cat" will always be around to teach and show the new guys how it's done. stuart is a great cat and we have faith that he can influence future kitties to be great as well. right now he is away with his sister ellie (and two other rescued brothers, seven and mallow) getting fixed.

more adventures of stuart and new baby foster kittens will return next week! stay tuned...

what we made

for Valentine's Day i requested that we cook together and attempt to make something we had never made before. we chose to attempt a Souffle and then modified two recipes to come up with a fantastic one... goat cheese, mixed herbs and leeks! yummy!

Couples who cook together

there was a great article in the NY Times yesterday about couples who cook together. not only could we relate to this article because we often cook together (and love doing it) but also because cooking together was what we had decided to do as our Valentine's Day celebration activity. after reading this article see if you can decide who is the "alpha cook" and the "beta cook" in our relationship. actually, most of you don't need to read the article to guess that.

never a dull moment

Has this turned into a kitten blog, or what!?

it's not the best picture of me, but ellie and stuart sure look cute!

i spoke too soon

ok ok... hopefully this will be the final name... after a full day of show-tune humming, Conrad the orange cat is now officially Stuart.

some people affectionately call him Stewie. what do you all think of that? better?

a very important debate

Now, what is this country coming to when there is some huge debate over which state originated the Hamburger!? This is so silly. The best thing about this article is the thread of comments at the bottom. Scroll down.

We all know that Wikipedia knows all. I think their account is the most accurate one.

Awww man! Can you stop cleaning my eye boogers now?

why not sleep in the hangers!?

The latest names in the running...

Simon
Linus
Kermit
Kelvin
Cameron
Stanley
Chester

...and Simon is winning right now because it is getting the most votes. Anyone like any of these names? The names on the first list are sort of losing popularity in our home. None of them are sticking. We are calling this poor kitten something different every time we call him! It's getting a little ridiculous.

P.S. I'll post more pics of them tonight to help you all decide. :)

What's in a name?

So, as you can see below, we have two new baby kitties. We are technically fostering them for two weeks but it could be a "rent to own" situation. :) We'll see how it goes.

Anyways, the little black one is Ellie (short for Eleanor). She's the big sister. Her little orange brother copies everything she does! He doesn't have a name yet. We have a few in the running but we can't decide. We want feedback... what do you guys think?

Atlas
Stuart
Orson
Owen

...or something else?

*some other outside suggestions have been:

Roger
Mason
Scout
Harold
Ted
Oscar
Micah

any feelings on those?

Save our environment

Have you seen An Inconvenient Truth? Well, you should. It's a powerful movie, like everyone says, and it's an extremely informative lecture-style film about our world. It inpires one to take action and I'm starting by suggesting that you just watch the film and become educated or aware of what is going on in our world. It's a start.
