Kol Nidre services at a very special place

Tonight we will have the pleasure of attending Kol Nidre services at the Portuguese Synagogue here in Amsterdam. This construction of this synagogue began in 1671. There are not normally services held here, they only have them on special occasions, so it's a real treat to experience them there.

Girls' Weekend!!!!

Speaking of travel planning, my girlfriends here (Jenn, Lauren and Crystal) and I decided to plan a girls-only weekend trip. In a few weeks we're going to drive down to Antwerp and stay there overnight. Not sure what there is to see/do there, but I think we're going to have fun no matter what we end up doing. It'll be one big slumber party in Belgium!

Exciting travel news!

Well, not much has been happening here because I've been quite sick this past week. However, with all of the down time we've managed to sit down and plan some great trips for the fall. We are starting to feel like our time here is running out! Along with a Germany trip in late November and a trip to the South of France in December, we have decided to go to Israel.

Yes, we know Israel is not Europe, but it's way easier to get to Israel from Amsterdam compared to trying to get there from California. I went to Israel 10 years ago, and Dave has never been. So it is sure to be an exciting trip.

Anyone have any recommendations of places to stay in either Tel Aviv or Jerusalem?

under the weather

Sorry I've fallen behind on blogging... I seem to have caught a nasty head cold. Too much flying around I guess.

Realization from the new month

As a page of our Jewish calendar was turned this morning I saw not only one new month, but the next four all on one page. This is very common for a Jewish calendar because September (sometimes October) is when the Jewish New Year falls. However, it was a realization for me that we only have these last four months of 2009 in Amsterdam. And, now all four of them are staring at me in my kitchen, reminding me that our remaining time here is so short. But, we're going to make the most of it!
