if there is anything good that comes out of working at city college of san francisco one morning a week, it is definitely my interactions with the community there.
have you ever seen someone get so mad at a USPS stamp vending machine that they kicked it until sirens were going off and lights were blinking on it? no? oh, what a shame!
today an older man wearing a backpack and leaning on a cane hobbled over to me innocently sitting at my info table. being an "outreach" person i reached out and said "hello, how are you?" he explained that he was doing well and was just waiting for the split pea soup to be ready in the cafeteria. i asked him if he thought they were making split pea because it was st. patrick's day. he wasn't sure about that, but then felt the need to tell me about how he unfortunately scheduled an acupuncture appointment tonight and he was going to have to come out of his appointment and see all of the celebrating drunks around.
ummmm... ok.
when he decided to saunter off, i said, "i hope you enjoy your acupuncture appointment tonight" and he replied, "and i hope it gets me off the morphine."
lovely.
