Over a week after my birthday, the celebration continues. Tonight my we are having my family birthday dinner at Chin's. YAY! TOFU! I decided to get myself a Spider Man birthday cake just to keep it real. Hey, you only turn 27 once, right?

little pink friend in the freezer

My brother's freezer broke and so everything in there started melting. I opened up the door to see what was going on, and I saw this natural formation. We think it was some sherbert that dripped down but we did not do a taste test to confirm our prediction. Nature creates some of the most beautiful things, don't ya think?

The Padres WORKED the Dodgers

Tonight Jon, Mandi, Adam and I went to the Padres game. We were hoping to see them totally wail on the Dodgers, and they did. It was sweet.

can i still eat them?

my over-boiled hard boiled eggs Posted by Hello

i make burnt toast look like fine cuisine

ok, so we all knew already that Torrey is the worst cook ever... if anyone ever says "all you need is the heart of a great cook" i am the poster child to prove that it's bullshit. burning popcorn in the microwave, scooping scalding hot pumpkin pie filling into a premade crust that instantly melts... that's all small time horrible cooking my friends. tonight, i tried to hard boil eggs... no big deal right? boiling water... what could be easier? so, um, yeah, i hard boiled them for AN HOUR!!! who does these things? i swear, i looked at the clock, remember thinking "hmmm, only 4 more minutes, i'll be right back" in that cute little thinking-in-your-head voice even... but, did i come back to my little eggies in 4 mins? no. try 40 mins. SHIT!

maybe i'm ovulating?

don't ask me what kind of mood i'm in right now... but i was having a funny chat conversation with a friend (a platonic female friend) today and we were sending each other weird links. the links got a little on the sexual side and i found a quote that i just had to post and share.

"Ejaculatory Inevitability (point of no return): There is a consciousness of imminent ejaculation."

if you are in need of further sexual education, feel free to read up on this website where i got some of my information today.

Tent University Santa Cruz (TUSC)

there is a situation going on right now at UC Santa Cruz called Tent Univeristy. read about what is actually going on by clicking here. students are taking a stand and having a week long rally. my cousin was one of the students who locked their arms together in protest late last night. fortunately, she was not one of the students who got arrested by the cops using brutal force. they have up to the minute breaking news if you want to check that out also.

twilight zone

so i was planning to have an uneventful day... and ultimately i did... but i had a few moments during the day when i almost fell into tradgedy. first i went to the VW dealership because it was time for me to stop ignoring my check engine light. of course, a day or two before my appointment the light turned off, but none the less, i went in for the diagnostic. on the phone they said it would only take an hour, so i figured i'd wait there and do some homework. when i arrived, they said it would take 3-4 hours... sheesh! why me? ok fine, i'll just sit around, i have to get this done, right? but then, it only took 2 hours total. and, there was nothing seriously wrong with my car. so here we have avoided tragedy #1.

since i got out of the car dealership early, i went back to my aunt's apartment in oakland to chill for a bit and do some homework... again a homework attempt. and, for those of you who don't know, my aunt lives in a penthouse apartment where you need a key in the elevator to get to her floor. so, just as i am getting into the elevator and turning the key to get to the 4th floor my keys jump out of my hand and in that slow motion movie sort of way they slip into the elevator crack and down underneath the elevator shaft into the basement of the building... the door slides shut. DAMN!!!! why me? right?

so now with my keys totally lost in the crack of death, my car is in the garage, my spare car key is in the apartment, and i'm locked out of the apartment, but locked in the building. i can't get out or else i'm totally stuck outside, but i can't go in beyond the common hallways. i call my aunt who of course in at a meeting in Placer county, realize that i will have to sit in the hall and do homework until 5pm when she gets home (it was 1230pm at this time) and i don't know what to do. i decide to sit in the hallway near the manager's door... of course he is no where to be found.... when all of a sudden he returns! he just happens to have the guy with him that has the tool to open the elevator and climb down underneath it within the shaft to get my keys! oh my gosh, i have never been so excited to see my keys in my whole life! here we have avoided tragedy #2.

potential tragedy #3 is something i don't want to go into too much... let's just say that i would have emotionally created a rediculous tragedy had i not recieved a phone call from a particular someone, but i did in fact get the phone call, and therefore i avoided tragedy #3.

after surviving these near misses of the makings of an awful monday... in actuality i layed out on my aunt's deck in the sun in my underwear, soaked up the warmth, did my homework, talked on the phone to my friends, went on a walk around lake merritt at sunset with my aunt, and had an extremely successful (under $30) Target run at the end of the night. i love my life right now. i highly recommend 27 to everyone.

afternoon in Santa Cruz

chickens on the organic farm Posted by Hello

Amy came to the Bay Area for the weekend to go to a concert, so Linny and I drove her back to Santa Cruz on Sunday. We spent the afternoon hiking around the campus, swinging on rope swings in the forest, and exploring the Organic Garden where Amy works. The above picture is me checking out the chickens (look, you can see my black underwear peeking out of the back of my pants).

Foot Update

So, here is what I think is going on with my foot... which is still bothering me 10 days later I must point out. I believe I have Plantar Fasciitis. It's not what the doctor at the SFSU Student Health Center said I had, but a different doctor suggested it, and after doing some online research, I agree with this other doctor. It's good to get second opinions... especially from cute doctors.

Anyways, read about it and have some empathy for what I've been going through. Plus, now that I have been limping for over a week, I've jacked up other muscles in my leg that have been compensating for my lame foot.

I think feet problems run in my family. Wait, now I think I might have what my Mom has... Morton's Neuroma. SHIT. No no, it's definitely the first thing. Oh, whatever, it sucks.

good morning to a freak out

i woke up this morning and a friend sent me a link to this site called Zaba.com ever heard of it? CRAP it freaked me out. check it out and search for people. i didn't realize there was so much info about me... addresses, phone numbers.... i've been living in a lot of places over the last 10 years... almost a different place every year or so. sheesh!

oh, and here is a little advice for those fellow insomniacs out there... do not take naps in the afternoon... even if you only suffer from mild and occasional insomnia... and even if it's your birthday. just don't "treat" yourself to a nice big 'ole nap. otherwise at 3am you are just burning with the thought of hunting down your chapstick because you can't lay there one more minute without putting some on. argh.

Birthday celebration

I had a super awesome birthday celebration tonight. Lindsay came over after her class and we took muni downtown to Embarcadero Center. We met our friends (Luisimo, Mike, Amy, Manal, Shirley, Marc and Beatrice) at Gaylord's, this Indian place on the top floor of Embarcadero Center near the movie theater. After a fabulous Indian feast and some silliness, Lindsay and Luisimo and I dashed off to The Punchline. Greg Proops was headlining, but there were some other greats tonight too. Joe Klocek was awesome... sooooooo funny! I forgot how much I love comedy clubs. I had a couple of drinks and the buzz helped me laugh non-stop for the entire evening. Luisimo took off on his motorcycle and Lin and I went back to the muni in order to end our night in a very San Francisco way.

Overall I had a near perfect birthday. So far, all I have to say about being 27 is that it's really great!

yes, i was in the student health center on my birthday Posted by Hello

My 27th birthday

so, my 27th birthday started out mild... i got some early morning birthday phone calls... which was great. i went to work and nothing too weird happened in the cafeteria of city college today... someone was looking down on me from above. thank you mr. man in the clouds! then i decided to go to the student health center to have my foot checked out. fortunately, my foot is not broken. well, at least not the bone. i did something else to it (i forgot what the doctor told me it was called) and basically i need to just not walk on it a lot and it will get better eventually. the doctor suggested to give me some cortizone shot, but i declined it. it's not that bad.

oh, and to explain the pics above, i was very pissed at the student health center because they are so mean there. when they made me wear these ugly yellow shorts i totally lost it. i retaliated by messing with all of their pamphlets. i mixed them all up and then put the sexual ones in the front of every section. hopefully some mean assistant will have to fix all of it. ha! i showed them!!!

then, in the afternoon (between phone calls) i treated myself to a delightful nap in a sun patch on Stephy's bed. as most of you know, i hate naps, i'm no good at them, and i just never take them.... but shit, it was my birthday, and it was as good a time as any. ahhhhh... sometimes i even love rebelling against myself!

last day of being 26 years old

frankenstein Posted by Hello

Just in case my final day of being 26 was going to be a typical day, I decided to go to my acupuncturist/chiropractor for another treatment on my foot (which is now suspected to be broken by the way). When I was leaving the office I said to my doctor, "aren't you going to take these needles out of my ear?" "Nope" he said, "leave them in until you go to sleep."

Well, for those of you who knew what my evening plans were, I'm sure you can guess that I didn't leave them in until I went to bed. I just left them in long enough to take some creepy pics of them, and then I got ready for my evening.

beautiful sunday

my day started off with some homework... then i ran off to Alameda to have lunch with a friend. after some eggs, hashbrowns, a waffle and some sliced banana's i got "dragged" out shopping in emeryville with the east bay girls. we had some silly spicy times at Zao and i made a little dent in my credit card due to abercrombie and fitch having great clothes.

oh, and don't forget the mini-skirt-and-off-the-shoulder-top fashion show i put on for my friends. that's always a hoot. many of my friends from college know about this game... freedom to pick out any clothes in the store that will look rediculous on Torrey and she has to try them on strictly for entertainment value. why do clothes that other people normally wear look so frickin hilarious on me? hey, whatever, i don't mind taking one for the team if everyone gets a good laugh.

my night ended with my 2 favorite television addictions Desperate Housewives and Grey's Anatomy. oooooh do i have to wait a whole week for more?

but, i don't eat ice cream

last night i went to Fenton's in Rockridge with Manal, Shirley, Marc and Beatrice. we decided to eat a bunch of junk... grilled cheese, onion rings, chili cheese fries and of course, ice cream. i had rainbow sherbert though and was inspired by the end of the evening to make soup out of it. :)

Quote of the early morning - Wednesday

"i like the leggers"

who else is awake right now?

yep... i'm still awake... still suffering from obviously too much stress to sleep. and here i am, stressing about it even more and therefore prolonging my awakedness. hopefully, tomorrow because i have to wake up super early and go to work AND school, i'll actually end up tired enough at the end of the night to pass out.

more than sleep, i think for my sanity i just need to stop stressing out. when will it be summer time? the next 2 months will be long... senioritis is rough.

you know what... screw this lame "i'm an insomniac" posting... i'm fine, i'm going to bed... posting late at night is dangerous... log off from the blog after midnight people! that's my advice for the night.... or early morning rather.

better than forwarding over email

The husband is reading the morning paper when his wife asks: "What would you do if I died? Would you get married again?"

HUSBAND: "Definitely not!"

WIFE: "Why not - don't you like being married?"

HUSBAND: "Of course I do."

WIFE: "Then why wouldn't you remarry?"

HUSBAND: "Okay, I'd get married again."

WIFE: "You would? (With a hurtful look on her face).

HUSBAND: (Makes audible groan).

WIFE: "Would you live in our house?"

HUSBAND: "Sure, it's a great house."

WIFE: "Would you sleep with her in our bed?"

HUSBAND: "Where else would we sleep?"

WIFE: "Would you let her drive my car?"

HUSBAND: "Probably, it is almost new."

WIFE: "Would you replace my pictures with hers?"

HUSBAND: "That would seem like the proper thing to do"

WIFE: "Would she use my golf clubs?"

HUSBAND: "No, she's left-handed."

WIFE: - - Silence - -

HUSBAND: "Shit!"

study on a day like today? naaaaaaah!

Today I decided to go to the beach before I went to school. I hiked around the old Sutro Baths area. It was a very beautiful day, and I learned something about San Francisco history while I was procrastinating on studying!

i'm NOT well-rounded

i am realizing more and more that i am not a very well-rounded individual. yes, there are a few things that i am exceptionally good at (i can't think of them right now, but i'm sure there are a few things) and then there are those dozens and dozens of things i am really not that good at.

for one thing, i hate sleeping. i am really really bad at sleeping... and i always have been. what's up with that? how many people do you know say that they are bad at sleeping? i really need to do something about this problem. i am sitting here, totally tired, i'm all alone, it's quiet, i have no excuse to be doing anything other than sleeping right now and i just cringe at the thought of it. is there a name for that?

perspective

so, i've just spent some time reading other people's blogs... and you know what? it truly can remind you that your life isn't so bad. i was shocked at how entertaining it was to read totally random blogs and i was also surprised at how comforting it was.

do you know that feeling when you are going through something and it feels like you are the only one who could possibly be feeling that way? i think it's some human thing to experience that... but, anyways, reading other people's blogs made me feel like i was not alone. other people have silly random stories... other people go through fucked up shit, and have highs and lows, etc. so, it was nice to surf around and peek into other people's worlds. it felt a little sneaky, but blogs are meant to be read, right?

here is a quote from someone else's blog that i loved and wanted to share with my 4 readers.
